A few years ago, I wondered how the News-Leader was doing with readership circulation. I found the Gannett annual reports online going back to 1998. I looked up the circulation numbers for the daily and Sunday newspapers for each year from 1998 to the most recent published. I found an interesting pattern. The circulation of the daily and Sunday editions was consistently going down. In 2006, the downward trajectory seemed to take an even steeper turn. I plotted the numbers on a graph and did a second graph from 2006 to the present and had the computer place a linear trend line through the points.
This is what I found.
